Multicultural Hockey Nights are back this year. Our opening match will be France versus Finland. So far Finland has had a two game winning streak, winning against both Slovakia and Germany. France will turn out to be an interesting test, while France has lost 6–2 to Slovakia they have won 3–1 against Austria, two of their players have been noted to be rising talents in the Finnish leagues, Charles Bertrand 23 plays for TPS and Yohann Auvitu is a Defenseman for Jyväskylä. Could their training in Finland turn out to be a tactical advantage?
The idea of multicultural hockey nights is to provide a multi-lingual and open platforms for new-comers to Finland and new-comers to Hockey. With so much reported on Hockey in Finnish in the press and in the media it can be hard to follow along. The idea is to have a fun international atmosphere where those who are unfamiliar to hockey can get to find a way to be acquainted. This game is expected to be a winner for Finland, although France is expected to put up a fight.
To start up the night we have Beninese-Finnish group Vodou Land Band travelling all the way to Helsinki from Salo to warm up the night. They have been playing gigs across Finland and their irresistible Beninese beats will be a great way to start the night. Ike Chime who is the president of Liikkukaa! Ry will also play some Kalimba (hand piano) during the night, his new twist on the traditional instrument will be a great addition to the band. At the end of the game, DJ Super Mazembe will spins some great beats to keep the party going. Entry is free, so be sure to be there!
